Get your barf bags ready, it's going to get a little sickening around here. It's time to put into words how much I adore my husband. I love him more and more every day and wanted to share his virtues with the cyberworld.
First and foremost, we are amateur foodies. Back in my single days, I always seemed to date the pickiest of eaters and just had to deal with it. I thought it was okay to live on pizza, corn dogs, and hamburgers alone and tried really hard to look past that horrible character flaw. After all, I could go have sushi with the girlfriends anytime. I just tried to smile politely when dates would say, "Sushi? That's not a meal, that's bate." Jerks!

Fate had other plans with my hubby. This man knows how to appreciate an good meal and is more than willing to try new things. My mom even knew he was "the one" when he popped a baby octopus into his mouth seconds after meeting her for the first time at Blue Fish on lower Greenville. Since then, it has been a virtual food paradise. He taught me the wonder that is Hatch chili. Just a glance into our deep freezer brings a smile to my face
with all the tubs of frozen green chili just waiting to be added to our favorite dishes. Without him, I would have never experienced the joy that is roasting season in Santa Fe.Living in Dallas, we have unlimited options when trying new foods. My husband's coworker introduced him to Vietnamese food. After a little convincing, I finally tried it one day. Who knew cilantro and jalapenos could be used for something besides salsa? The Pho was a whole new experience in flavor combinations. It was interesting to try to discern what made up the broth, and even more intriguing to figure out what made up the meat. Vietnamese still isn't my favorite, but I'll eat it anytime like a pro.
The latest food adventure got me thinking about how much I love my husband. He recently started working with some Koreans. Being the foodie that he is, he somehow convinced them to take him to dinner for some authentic Korean food. He kept talking to me about how great it was. After a really long day at work last weekend, he announced he had found a Korean BBQ restaurant for us to try...on Harry Hines. Not exactly the food mecca of Dallas! But, I was exhausted and hungry, so I was up for anything as long as there was a little alcohol involved. About 10 minutes after ordering "Number 30", our table looked a lot like this:

8 to 10 small dishes with all kinds of veggies. Mushrooms, radish, cucumbers, kimchi (Korean coleslaw with vinegar and chili instead of mayo), dried shrimp, and pumpkin were just a few of the choices. Our waitress/chef then returned with a plate full of marinated beef that she started cooking on the table. I was thinking, "oh no, some more mystery meat like the Vietnamese Pho", but I was SO wrong. The waitress then showed us how to build the Korean lettuce wrap with a little sauce, some of the cooked beef, a few marinated radishes, all on a lettuce bed. With my very first bite, I was in heaven. That was the tastiest beef I have ever had, so tender and flavorful. I could go on and on about how yummy it all was in combination with the various veggy toppings. Needless to say, I can't wait to go back!
So, why do I love my husband? Because of him, I've put on a few pounds tasting and craving all of the dishes he prepares and orders for me. Please don't let this food adventure ever end!
